Many times on jobs, the customer will have walk in closets, closets or just some form of storage. A while back I started to use GONDOLA BOXES to move items, that were not packed up. I had heard about them for years and had a method I used with wardrobe boxes. Wardrobe boxes still are super helpful. The Gondolas offer a different way and are triple thick and can be slid down stairs. I also can dolly them up stairs, after I shrink wrap the top. 2 or 3 of them can hold a lot. I try to have 5 or more on my truck at all times. The image above shows 2 of them being used during a load up.

Packing supplies

Over the years I have gone to a place called Texan box. They are located on Aw Grimes in Round Rock and have just about everything needed for preparing and packing up. Part of completing an Austin to Houston full service move can be doing some packing. I get pretty good, discounted rates for supplies but Texan box has fair prices in general. Lowe’s, Home depot and half price boxes also have a good amount of moving supplies. They have more heavy duty options at Lowe’s and Home depot as well.

This is my main Trailer I pull with a pickup. It’s 24 feet by 8 by 8. I have about 60 blankets, 2 – 2 wheel dollies and 2 – 4 wheel dollies. Many tie downs of different sorts and the Gondola boxes I mentioned.

Storage options

Houston has many storage facilities to choose from obviously. Usually a one bedroom apartment will fit in a 10 by 10 or a 10 by 15. A two bedroom apartment, usually a 10 by 15 or 10 by 20. A 3 bedroom apartment / house – 10 by 20 to 10 by 30.

When choosing a size of unit, It’s not always the amount of air space to consider., If you have blankets, that we can protect your furniture with, then thinking in 3 dimensions is great.!. Or only boxes, totes an non fragile items. Most folks don’t have 10 to 50 blankets though. So renting a unit with a decent amount of floor space, is helpful. We can make the best of whatever situation though and always are cautious/ careful with your belongings.

Climate controlled units during the summer, can be important in Houston. . Depending on your length of storage time and items. One thing to be aware of, is to not store any type of food items that attract animals etc. I’ve seen on several occasions this be a problem after longer term storage.
