I started Mighty E’s moving in 2003 and had been a mover for work, prior to that, since 1994. I grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and moved here to Austin in 1996. I’ve been an artist/musician since I was young but moving people and the physical work is something I really enjoy. I’m glad to be one of the moving companies in Austin.
Austin mover – Local and long distance
I can do smaller jobs solo or with a helper. Washers and dryers, some refrigerators, couches, safes etc. Small, medium or large storage moves. Efficiencies, up to 3 and 4 bedroom apartments. Townhomes, condo’s, offices and homes. I have a lot of experience with all types of Piano moves from the past as well. Although I don’t do them to much anymore but can. My main equipment is a 24 foot trailer that is fully enclosed, 8 feet high and 8 feet wide inside. I have cargo insurance as well, all legal requirements. Also, approximately 75 large, heavy duty moving blankets as well. A couple two wheel dollies and 4 wheel dollies. Half a dozen tie down E-track straps and shrink wrap, etc. (Here is an older youtube video from many years ago showing some equipment)
Pricing
In town the hourly rate for myself and my helper is around 120.00 per hour. There’s a trip/fuel charge and this varies – 20.00 to 80.00 depending how far your going. As far as out of town moves, I go by the mile most times and then hourly on the loading and unloading time. However, It’s negotiable and some people like the hourly rate, plus a bit larger trip charge. The mileage / labor rate is the way I like to go because it keeps things a defined but I’m open. There is no hourly charge during the drive with the mileage. The mileage rate varies depending on the season and gas prices . Currently, a 100 mile or so move, say Waco to Austin, of a 2 bedroom apartment, packed up, 2nd floors.. ends up being around 700.00 to 800.00. If there is extra packing needed or long walks/ more stairs, this could take some extra time and supplies.
Packing and supplies
I get great prices on supplies and don’t mark them up. Should you want to get supplies on your own for your move, here are links for places I go to for mine. Link.. Link. As of late, the rate for myself and my helper is 100.00 per hour for packing. I’ve also got giant gondola boxes, which are incredibly helpful for walk – in closets, closets, storage, garages, etc.. I can wrap up pictures, small Tv’s and a lot of what you can imagine and place it in these. Dollies are used to transport them to and from the truck and they slide down stairs with ease. I also can dolly them up with a little Mighty good fortune and effort. . They have been a great addition to my moving methods and save time and money for the customer.
In closing
Depending on what you are moving and from what zip code to what zip code, determines a lot. Some jobs are built for me to do solo and save the customer money.. Like say a washer n dryer set with a wider staircase. Or a sofa set, using a padded dolly and shrink wrapping the set. Or a couple of dressers and a bed set. Whatever makes it safe first and foremost and then quick . My goal is always to have your stuff make it perfectly from one place to the other. In the exact same condition it was in at the start and to protect the floors, walls and terrain. Most always on any full service moves, it’s myself and my helper, unless otherwise discussed or requested.
